Abi Sharp - Humanistic Counsellor
Hello, my name is Abi, and I am a qualified Humanistic Counsellor and Therapist. I appreciate how hard it can be to find a therapist who feels like a good fit, so I hope this summary will give you an insight into how I practice, and whether you would like to work with me.
As a Humanistic Counsellor, I endeavour to hear, understand and accept who you are and how you experience life, whether it be now or in the past and how you make sense of it.
The relationship between client and therapist is very unique and can take some time to get used to. I will offer a confidential space, away from the typical interactions you may have with people, in which I hope you feel comfortable and safe to share what is affecting you.
Together and at your pace, we will explore your feelings, thoughts, beliefs or what you notice in your body and what this is telling you. I believe this exploration in the here and now allows your self-awareness to grow and from there, you can find meaning and choose whether something needs to change. You are the expert of yourself, so I value what you bring, and all the parts you hold within, whether these parts are celebrated or disliked. My aim is to compassionately work in a way that is affirming of your identity, including but not exclusive to, your race, culture, ability, sexuality, gender and neurodivergence.
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapy and Counselling from the University of Brighton. This means I was taught from an Existential viewpoint which constantly encourages me to be curious and focus on a client’s unique experiences. Alongside this, I am influenced by trauma informed somatic approaches which focuses on the vast information the body can hold on how we feel.
