Joanna Brown - Psychotherapist
About Joanna
There are many reasons why people decide to come to therapy. It might be that you are feeling stuck and frustrated but you don’t know why, and you’d like the space and time to get clearer about what it is that is bothering you. Or, perhaps, you know what you want to explore but you would like some support to address those thoughts, feelings and behaviours that you find challenging. While therapy cannot promise to fix all of your problems it can help to change your perspective on those things that may be difficult to accept and loosen the grip of deep-seated patterns, thereby making it possible to live well and be true to yourself.
As an experienced psychotherapist I am able to offer a welcoming, confidential and non-judgemental space where you will be heard, with the kind of attention that is deeper and more focused than that available in everyday conversations. It is my belief that the therapeutic process is not about seeking perfection, but rather, acceptance of all of our emotions, good, bad and indifferent, and holding a place where you can think and feel about them all.
I am not a therapist who adopts a distant role. I will enter into the material you bring by listening, encouraging and challenging you into new ways of being and relating with others and yourself. Ultimately it is you who is the expert on yourself and my skills are in enabling you to come to know and trust this.
I have specific training for working with anxiety, depression, bereavement, loss, relationship problems and life transitions and I hold a trauma-informed perspective in my practice.
Whatever your reason for seeking therapy at this time you are most welcome to get in touch to discuss the possibility of working together.
