Lucille McLennan - Trainee Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
Choosing the right therapist can be really daunting - it's hard to know where to begin! I hope you find this brief overview helpful in making your decision.
I am a trainee therapist at Metanoia Institute. As a Humanistic therapist I integrate three modalities into my practice: Transactional Analysis, Person-Centred and Gestalt therapy. This means I am flexible in the way that I work and together we can find a style of therapy that works best for you. What all three modalities have in common is their belief in equality between client and therapist and the importance of the therapeutic relationship.
Above all I believe in every person's unique nature and the importance of seeing the whole without making assumptions. I respect client autonomy and believe in the inherent ability of every person to heal themselves, however difficult that might feel for you right now. As a therapist it is my job to be alongside you in your healing journey by creating a space which offers the right conditions to do so. The space I seek to create is one of safety, empathy and a sense of being held; by doing so you may feel able to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at greater depth. You may be wondering what I mean by 'healing journey' and while that might look different for everyone, often therapeutic work sees a change in self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-compassion.
Alongside my practice I have several years of experience running psychoeducational support groups for the Brighton & Hove Wellbeing Service and working in postnatal maternal mental health. As an inclusive practitioner, I welcome working with difference and regularly attend training to ensure that my practice is anti-oppressive, anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ affirmative. I adhere to the UKCP ethical framework as a trainee member.
