Michele Karban - Adult & Child Psychotherapist

I am a compassionate and dedicated humanistic psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience in the caring profession. My journey began as a team member providing care to teenage girls in a children’s home, where I developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by young people in care. Since then, I have worked in various settings, including private and NHS psychiatric units for both teenagers and adults, as well as rehabilitation environments and schools.

With a diverse background in health and recovery, I am trained in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy and Integrative Child Psychotherapy, and am registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP). I also work as a clinical supervisor seeing qualified therapists and those in training.

I am a sex positive therapist and have been involved with Pineapple Support Charity for a number of years providing therapy to people working specifically in the adult performance industry. I am also listed on the sex worker friendly therapist National Ugly Mugs directory.

My work with adults encompasses a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, separation/loss, and difficulties stemming from childhood experiences.

Working with children and young people, some of the issues I provide support for are family separation, bereavement, self-harming behaviour, anxiety, and problems related to school and peer group.

My training as a yoga teacher has enriched my therapeutic approach, allowing me to integrate a holistic perspective into my work. Additionally, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which I incorporate into my practice where appropriate to enhance trauma processing, facilitating deeper healing and personal growth.

I prioritise creating a safe and supportive environment and work to ensure all clients feel respected and understood. I believe whole heartedly it's the connection between myself and client which is the essential element for change and success in the therapeutic work. With a mix of warmth and challenge I offer a place that encourages self-reflection and growth, helping people integrate their experiences and gain deeper insights into themselves.
