Mila Wilson - Art Psychotherapist

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy uses art making, alongside talking, to enrich communication and to provide another way for emotions to be processed. Art making can enable you to explore feelings that may be too difficult to put into words. Art itself is often considered to be an inherently healing activity and this can be harnessed within the therapeutic setting.

You do not need to have any art skills or previous experience of art to have art therapy. You simply need an interest in being creative and a willingness to experiment. I will listen to what you need and be led by how you feel in the session.

How do I work?

My approach is rooted in the belief that self-expression through art making can be a transformative pathway to self-discovery and healing. I work primarily psychodynamically and during our sessions I will attempt to help you understand your own emotions and beliefs in order to gain insight about yourself. My work is trauma informed and I am LGBTQ+ affirmative.

I aim to create an environment in which you can explore, experiment, and express yourself without judgment, finding beauty in imperfection and wisdom in artistic exploration. I will give you my full attention and listen empathetically to try and best understand what is going on for you.

My practice is open to individuals interested in embracing a holistic approach to mental well-being. Whether you are dealing with life transitions, emotional challenges, or simply longing for a space to explore and express your inner world, my expertise in art psychotherapy offer a refreshing and insightful path.
