Sally Turberville Smith – Individual and Couple Counsellor
I am a UKCP accredited Transpersonal Integrated Psychotherapist. Integrated means I have studied all the main models of psychotherapy so I am able to flex my approach to suit my clients’ needs and individuality. Transpersonal means that I am guided in my life and work by an intuitive, heart centred approach that welcomes and nourishes the soul and our spiritual selves.
My area of specialism is relationships - whether you are looking to understand yourself better and how you relate to others or to work on a more intimate relationship with a partner. Relationships are possibly one of the hardest yet most rewarding aspects of being a human being and it is inevitable that we will encounter friction and conflict through our differences in personality, sensibility, perception and values. Issues of power and control, care and closeness, respect and recognition are some of the factors that will affect us in relationships. I believe that how we see ourselves and how we behave in relationships is primarily shaped by our family of origin, attachment style and the challenges we encountered growing up. I want to hear your story and my way of working is trauma informed and will be guided by your personality and preferences. I believe the body is a deep source of wisdom and I am interested in creative and intuitive approaches to healing that bypass the conscious or more analytical part of our brains.
Grief and Loss
I am also an experienced grief counsellor and have helped many people transition through this difficult and painful time of loss as well as through other periods of change such as illness, redundancy, divorce, becoming a parent, the menopause, re-locating and retirement.
Work related stress and burn out, workplace bullying, eating disorders and co-dependency are other areas of specialism.
What to expect
I hope that in working with me with me you will come to appreciate your unique qualities and physiology (I am also a Nutritionist and yoga Nidra teacher) build resilience to life’s inevitable challenges, make more fulfilling choices and experience less anxiety, conflict within yourself or your couple and ultimately a greater sense of connection to your family, friends and community.
Whatever your gender, sexuality, race or ethnicity I strive to offer you a nonjudgemental place where your whole self is welcomed and as a psychotherapist, I adhere to the ethical codes of practice set out by the UKCP and BACP.
There are no quick fixes in therapy, but I do believe that the examined life is richer and much more interesting, especially if we have the courage and commitment to confront what frightens or limits us and embrace a new narrative to live by.
