What is an Art Therapy Group?
An Art Therapy Group is a form of therapy that provides a safe place for thoughts, emotions, and experiences to be expressed and explored through art making and discussion. The aim of the Art Therapy group is to improve emotional, social, and mental health, give space for healing, and promote wellbeing.
The group is a confidential space where the participants can engage with art materials either individually or in collaboration with the group. No previous art experience is necessary, however a curiosity surrounding creativity is helpful.
Who Is This For?
This is a group for over 18’s and we strive to make an accessible space for adults of any neurodivergence, age, gender identity, physical ability, sexual orientation, race, or social background.
What To Expect
The group will consist of approximately 6 participants, plus the facilitators (Amy and Mila). We will meet in a comfortable room where there will be space and time for art making and discussion. The group is mainly led by what the participants want to focus on and is primarily a therapeutic group rather than an art class.
Various thoughts and emotions may come to the surface during the art making, and the group can reflect on these together in the space. To do this safely we adhere to HCPC guidelines; maintaining confidentiality, and awareness of risk and safeguarding. We take care of each other and take care of the space. These boundaries work together to provide a supportive and therapeutically held group environment.
