Introduction to Group Analysis

14 January 2025 - BOOK HERE

Speaker: Sue Griffin:

Group Analysis is a form of group psychotherapy that explores the intricate interplay between individual and group dynamics. Founded by S.H. Foulkes in the mid-20th century, it is rooted in psychoanalytic and sociological principles, providing a rich framework for understanding how individuals relate to one another within the social field. Group Analysis posits that human beings are inherently social, shaped by their relationships, culture, and societal structures. Therefore, personal issues are not viewed in isolation but as part of a broader context, deeply embedded in interpersonal and societal networks.

In a group analytic setting, participants are encouraged to share their experiences, thoughts, and feelings in an open and reflective environment. The group becomes a microcosm of broader society, offering a space where unconscious processes, roles, and patterns can emerge and be explored. By attending to these interactions, individuals gain insights into their relational patterns and how they impact their lives. The conductor (therapist) facilitates this process, maintaining a balance between structure and spontaneity while fostering a sense of shared responsibility and dialogue within the group. This approach helps individuals address personal difficulties and cultivates a deeper awareness of collective dynamics, promoting healing and growth on both individual and communal levels.

Welcome to CPD Sussex

A hub for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) designed specifically for counsellors and psychotherapists in and around the vibrant Sussex South Coast. We represent a dynamic partnership between two local businesses: New Road Psychotherapy, Brighton and Hove, and Connexus Institute of Psychological Development and Training, Hove. Guided by experienced psychotherapists, supervisors, and trainers Rory Singer and Patrick Brook, our mission is to foster an environment for meaningful connections, networking, and idea exchange for professionals in counselling and psychotherapy, regardless of the stage of career - be it seasoned practitioners or those still in training.

Low-Cost Networking Workshop Events

In our desire to inspire, empower, and unite counsellors and psychotherapists across the region, Rory and Patrick are pleased to present a series of affordable CPD/Networking events scheduled bi-monthly from September 2024 to July 2025.

These workshops, open to all, are priced at just £10 per person and are held ‘in-person’ and ‘in-room’ at the Connexus Institute training premises on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Each attendee will receive a 2-hour CPD Certificate, and complementary tea, coffee, and refreshments will be provided.
