Mental First Aid
11th March 2025 - BOOK HERE
Speaker: Dr Hulya Hooker:
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training program designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health challenges or crises. Similar to physical first aid, MHFA empowers people to provide immediate, non-judgmental support to someone experiencing mental distress until professional help can be obtained or the crisis subsides. It covers a range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, and substance misuse, as well as guidance on managing conversations about suicide or self-harm.
Central to MHFA is the promotion of empathy, active listening, and the reduction of stigma surrounding mental health issues. By fostering early intervention and encouraging open dialogue, MHFA supports those in distress and contributes to creating healthier, more inclusive communities.
